Meet Brent Ritchie
Brent Ritchie is one of New Zealand's most experienced assessors for the Baldrige based New Zealand Business Excellence Awards (1996 - 2006) and is the Managing Director and lead consultant in his own company
Excellence Works Ltd. (2000).
Brent has over 20 years experience working with the Criteria for Performance Excellence in New Zealand, and in recent years in both Australia and SE Asia providing expert advice and solutions to senior executives who desire to achieve world class organisational performance.
He has supplied services or assisted with Baldrige evaluations, both internally and externally with New Zealand Award recipients (or their parent organisations) every year from 1997 to 2012 including Royal & SunAlliance, Synergy International, Gracelands, Westland Laundry, Degussa Peroxide and Comalco (Aust. Head Office) and is the lead consultant with the New Zealand Fire Service, a 2005 and 2009 Award Winner.
Brent has been involved in evaluating and leading teams for a wide range of public awards programmes including the Vero Excellence in Business Support Awards and the IBANZ Insurance Industry Excellence Awards. He has developed bespoke frameworks for small and large organisations in New Zealand, Australia and SE Asia - tailoring the Criteria for Performance Excellence to suit industry or country specific requirements, as well as training and leading internal evaluators to conduct self-assessments. He has assisted multiple applicants in the preparation of award applications in the NZ Business Excellence Awards, NZ Franchise Awards, and the NZ Export Awards.
Brent has worked successfully within a wide range of public and private sector organisations representing service and manufacturing industries employing up to 10,000 people. He also has extensive experience in the SME sector having led a 40-employee business to achieve 5 consecutive Baldrige based awards prior to establishing his successful consulting practice. - Has worked in management, general management and CE positions in both manufacturing and service industries throughout New Zealand with employee numbers up to 600 and turnover in excess of $40m.
- Has assessed or worked with many of New Zealand's top performing organisations that apply Baldrige and has written over 45 complete Baldrige Feedback Reports.
- Has used software based assessment tools designed and employed in USA, New Zealand and Australia including the popular Quantel QLBS programme
- Has presented at Quality and Business Excellence public conferences and workshops in New Zealand and Australia as an expert in the field of Business Excellence, including NZBEF Knowledge Hours and at the 2007 World Quality Congress held in Wellington , NZ, where he spoke on Strategy & People to 150 delegates
- Delivered service as a mentor for Business in the Community
- Has conducted a series of systems and process related workshops and coaching with the Biz Centre Wellington region network focusing on business expansion for Small Medium Enterprises
- Has designed and implemented bespoke evaluation frameworks for government agencies in NZ including project management, evaluator training, piloting of the evaluation systems and quality assurance
